Nancy's Topics:
  • Assessment of the Adult and Geriatric Patient to Prevent Acute Hospitalizations
Between 1999 - 2004 preventable hospitalizations for nursing home residents cost New York State $1.24 billion. Five conditions accounted for 85% of these costs. In this two-hour workshop Nancy educates nurses working in long-term care and psychiatric settings on how to prevent and recognize the early signs of pneumonia, congestive heart failure, urinary tract infection, dehydration, and manage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Once recognized Nancy explains how nurses can communicate their findings to the medical staff for prompt treatment.

  • What is Nursing?... Separating Fact from Fiction
In a 1999 Gallup Poll the general public gave nursing the highest rating for honesty and ethical behavior than any other profession. Despite these positive findings several television dramas frequently portray nurses in a negative light or fail to adequately show what nurses really do. Without a better understanding of how nurses save lives and positively contribute to the healthy of our country, recruiting future nurses as well as retaining today's nurses has been challenging. Nancy's keynote presentation on this topic dispels the unrealistic media portrayal of nurses, guides nurses on how to properly communicate their value, and demonstrates ways to serve as a positive role model in the nursing profession.

  • Can't Find the Nursing Job You Want?... Create the Job of Your Dreams
There were very few job opportunities for nurse practitioners when Nancy achieved her dream of becoming a nurse practitioner. Despite this obstacle - Nancy created many of her positions. Nancy explains in her keynote presentation how nurses and nurse practitioners can identify and market their nursing skills to create the job they are passionate about.

  • Retain Your Best Employees by Creating Effective Supervisors and Managers
Employees don't leave organizations - they leave their managers. Front line employees are often promoted to a supervisory position without any management training. In this half-day workshop Nancy enlightens new and experienced supervisors and managers on how to avoid the biggest pitfalls of management and how to empower the employees they manage.

  • Are You Getting the Best Preventative Care You Should Receive?... What You Don't Know CAN
    Hurt You!
Many diseases can be prevented or detected early enough to save lives. Most people are not aware of what is involved with a preventative history and exam for their age group. In her keynote presentation on this topic Nancy explains what every person needs to know about their preventative health care.

What Audiences Say About Nancy:
"As an Adult Nurse Practitioner, I consider one of my best skills to be in the area of Physical Assessment and this is due in large part to my Syracuse University Advance Physical Assessment Instructor, Nancy Banfield Johnson. I was recently fortunate enough to introduce Nancy for one of her workshops at a New York State Office of Mental Health Director of Nursing Conference.

The participants rated Nancy's workshop as excellent and many commented that they wished they had more time.

Nancy has the ability to present her material in a very practical, easy to use format, teaching very important nursing skills that can be used by the novice and expert alike."
